Meet The Team: Kaolee

Kaolee is the founder & visionary behind The Story Cloth Shop. She is full of zeal &  a spark of fire. She is the ultimate Dreamer & Doer. We are so grateful to have the privilege of working alongside her.

Tell us about yourself!

I'm Kaolee. During my 9-to-5, I'm in the Finance Department at a nonprofit organization crunching numbers. From 5-to-9, I'm playing with my kids, reading or hanging out with my friends.

I have two beautiful children, and they are my absolute everything and inspiration to starting The Story Cloth Shop. As a teenager, I was not always super proud of my Hmong heritage. I didn't understand why I was asked to do things and why my parents believed what they did. It wasn't until I had my own kids that I started looking more into my background and my heritage. This search made me want to dig more into who I am and what my Hmong community is all about. I want to help create narratives for topics which has been silenced and held in. I believe that by sharing each of our stories, we grow stronger as a community and help to pave the way for the children behind us.

Fun Facts About Kaolee

My favorite hobby is karaoke! I love hanging with my friends and pretending I'm Adele!

My guilty pleasure is fried chicken! Popeye's is my favorite!

My hidden talents are...spelling and reading multiple books at once. I went to the City Spelling Bee when I was in 7th grade. And I love having multiple books for multiple occasions so I'm always in between books.

Some activities on my bucket list are to master multiple languages, travel around the world, and write a book.

What's a perfect day look like for you?

Sleeping in, reading, journaling, playing with my kids, and dinner with friends.

What's one thing you have been putting off doing?

Getting my brows threaded! They're horrible.

What’s your go-to order at your favorite coffee shop?

Definitely hot tea, preferably something minty to get me energized!

If you could say one thing to your 19-year-old self, what would it be?

It's okay to be afraid, but you have to at least try.
